Mafia

Privacy Policy

Last updated 12 October 2026

You can host and play Mafia without an account. Signing in with an AimDev account is optional, and only a host has a reason to: it carries the free games and a Game Night pass between the app and the website. What follows is what the app and the website handle.

What we collect

What Why How long
The name you type when you join a room So the other people at the table can see whose turn it is. You choose it; it does not have to be your real name. Deleted with the room
Game state — the room code, who holds which role, votes, and the log of what happened It is the game. Without it the app cannot tell you your own role or count a vote. Deleted with the room
A random token identifying your seat So the app can prove you are the player whose secret role it is about to show, and so you keep your seat if your phone restarts. It is generated by us, means nothing outside the room, and is not linked to you. Deleted with the room
If you host: how many games you have hosted, and any Game Night pass you hold The first three games are free and a pass lasts 24 hours, so the server has to count. Without signing in, the count is kept against a random id made on your device, which is not linked to you. If you sign in, it is kept against your AimDev account's id, so it follows you between the app and the website. 400 days after it last changed
If you buy a Game Night pass: the store's record of the purchase — which store, which product, the store's transaction id and the time So we can check with Apple or Google that the purchase is real, and start your pass once. The payment itself is handled by the App Store or Google Play; we never see your card or billing details. Kept with the hosting record above
If you sign in: your AimDev account's id To know which hosting record is yours. Your email address and password belong to the AimDev account service you sign in through (auth.aimdev.site); Mafia's game server keeps the account's id, not your email address. Kept with the hosting record above
Crash reports, if the app fails So we can fix it. These contain the technical details of the failure — not your name, and not the contents of a game. 90 days

A room and everything in it is deleted automatically twelve hours after it is created. There is no archive and no backup of finished games.

What we do not do

Children

Mafia is a party game and suitable for teenagers and adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them — a name typed into a room is the only thing a player provides at all.

Where it is processed

Mafia is built and operated by AIM DEV LIMITED, a New Zealand company, and runs on our own servers rather than a third-party game platform. Crash reports go to our own self-hosted error tracker.

Your rights

If you never sign in, there is nothing to look up: we cannot find "your" data, because nothing identifies you. If you host signed in, the hosting record above is tied to your AimDev account: email us from the account's address and we will tell you what it holds, or delete it. If you want a room deleted before its twelve hours are up, the host can end the game, or you can email us the room code and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes will be noted in the app's store listing.
